Christmas Card challenges & Merry Monday

Here is the palette we were asked to use

This is to make a Christmas card.
I started with my blue scrap bag and matched a few geometric papers to form the card.
I added a brad in the required colour range as decoration then added the square red sentiment.
Here is the final card
It is equidistant around the edges on cream card base.

Next I made a card for Merry Monday challenges.
As it is a long weekend here, it felt like Sunday so I missed the closing time.
Here's my card anyway.

Freshly made sketches again & Festive Friday

I liked the design at Freshly made sketches enough  to make a second card.
The tag was made from a Crabtree and Evelyn bag that I was given.
I added the sentiment, which already had the rhinestone cherries on it. A perfect fit!
The strips are washi tape.

While I'm on cards, here is one for http://festivefriday.blogspot.ca/

The stimulus picture looks like this.

I went with the pine branch and the red and white spotted paper and found this Basic Grey "Fruitcake" paper matched it quite well.
I've added some silver washi tape plus a brown sentiment to match the basket

Stuck on U sketches

The latest sketch at Stuck on U sketches is this one

I'm happy because it is a multi photo sketch.

My daughter loves black and purple.
It follows through in her house decorating.
Last Christmas, I walked into her laundry and noticed that even the washing powder was purple!
This led to my layout ......Hmm! A theme here

The background paper was a Bella Rock Chic paper but went well with my photos ,as did the rhinestones and purple ricrac.
It is different, but that is me. (I think it must be hereditary!)
I like to scrap outside the normal.

Off the rails scrapbooking

I followed Lizzy Hill to Off the Rails scrapbooking last month and did a layout only to find out I had missed the closing date.
This month it is to use fabric.

I started with a remnant of curtain material with a large self pattern of flowers and birds.
I stitched the square onto patterned paper.
Where the flowers are I stitched and glued random flowers, that I had including some hydrangeas on a large daisy base.
I used a small chipboard piece I had which I inked pink.
As well as the curtain fabric you will notice there are white organdie flowers in the mix.

My title was ready to go so I put it through the Xyron only to discover the I is missing.
After looking everywhere it seems to have vanished.
I have substituted a cardstock I.
Here is the finished layout.

Two more cards -Case this sketch and Seize the birthday again.

This is the Case this Sketch this week and here's mine

And while busy making cards I've done another one for Seize the Birthday
I found these stickers saying summer and the cute sandcastle.

Both the background cards are orange.

AND A NEWS FLASH!
For my layout named Piper's Dream.

Ok, these were the instructions and here is my entry.

This one was published a couple of years ago in Scrapbook Creations.
The theme was "A touch of whimsy" and all I had was the photo.
I let my mind wander from there and came up with The Wizard of Oz.

Cardabilities, Charms creations, Jennifer Grace and stash busting.

This is all I had left of my June Counterfeit Kit.

I haven't used any of the wood veneers so they will wait for another month.

I have used this pile of leftovers to create a card and a layout. First the card'

This is the current Cardabilities sketch.....here is my rectangular interpretation.

I've used a punched heart with some small flowers as my trims.
The Bella Pearl Stickers worked well at the top. I've wound embroidery floss around them, as per the sketch.
The chevron is washi tape, the remaining is all papers cut to shape.

Next to the layout. Jennifer Grace asked us to do a layout about our happy place without too much thought to placement of items and use dribbles of paint (in my case mists) on the page.
I basically just put things on the page as they came out of the scraps box.
I've used all my kit now except 2 PL cards which can go into my stash.

On my layout I've used a CHARMS CREATIONS STAR which I have altered by inking over it with white, then yellow. This toned down the brown and added a more beachy feel to the layout.
(Could it be a starfish?)

Is it just me or does that big blue blob at the top look like Australia?

Seize the Birthday and Jingle Belles

This morning I visited Jennifer Grace's blog.
She is always so inspiring. She is running a challenge to be inspired.

http://jennifergracecreates.com/a-challenge-to-be-inspired-4/

Her design made me create 2 cards.
The first is for Seize the birthday where the topic is summer.
It gave me a chance to use some scraps plus 2 chipboard pictures I've had for quite a while.
The sentiments are from Kaiser "Hello Sunshine" range.

Next, I made a Christmas card for Jingle belles where the theme is red and green all over.
I've added some emerald coloured rhinestones to this one.
I've used 2 co-ordinating patterned papers plus some free cut out sentiments I had.

Freshly made sketches

Here is the #139 sketch. It is for Freshly made sketches
I've used a tag in a pocket from The Paper studio.
It looks very manly to me, but could equally used to thank someone who helped with typing or for International secretary Day.
Of course I've turned the sketch on its side.

City crafters

http://www.citycrafter.blogspot.com.au/

The theme is NAUTICAL

I've used a picture from an old children's dictionary on this card.

Life, paper, scrapbook

There's a sketch challenge at Life, paper, scrapbook which looks like this

I've used more of my Counterfeit Kit to make a layout of my dear cat Tuppence.
Unfortunately she died a few years ago ,but she had a thing for high places.
In this photo she is sitting on top of our wall unit.

1 2 3 challenge Blue masks and together

This combination inspired me, especially as I have just bought a new sunray mask from Studio Calico.

I misted using Tattered angels glimmer mist in turquoise on a blue paper.
This gave a subdued yet defined sunray.
I found an 8x8 patterned sunray paper which I've used as my mat.
I've placed white netting, blue foil punched out plus a grey and black patterned paper strips.

Over that , I have added an assortment od embellishments:-
A blue paper clip shaped like an S
2 brads featuring blue stars.
A chipboard arrow.
A flair button featuring a male and female symbol.

Earlier this month, I experimented making my own enamel dots by melting beads in the oven.
It worked!!! I've used some blue enamel dots on this layout plus a lasso of twine (also blue) around the flair and the dots.
The title is made by mounting patterned paper on American Crafts DIY thickers.
They are adhesive on both sides, so I lay the patterned paper down, then reversed the letters and cut them our with a craft knife.
The finished effect harks back to the mat behind the photos.
Here is the finished layout

If someone asked me to define my scrapping style I would say this is pretty close.
No flowers, lots of other embellishments, a bit of misting plus some interesting papers and matting.
While I like clusters I think they are sometimes over the top so prefer to spread my items around the photo to highlight each element.

Mystical scraps challenge

The June challenge at Mystical is to use scraps on your desk without cutting anything.
We are permitted 3 tears.

Here are my scraps from this months Counterfeit Kit
Even my backing sheet has a chunk out of the corner,
I tore the kraft to make a top border.
I tore the floral to make a mat for a photo.
I tore the black and white using a ruler to make another mat.
The remainder is as it was found. The lettering is even scraps.

The top picture is an optical illusion, it is straight on the page but photographed at an angle.

Counterfeit Kit tone-on-tone background.

Here is a link to what we are asked to do this month.
http://scrapbookandcardstodaymag.typepad.com/scrapbook_cards_today_blo/2014/05/creating-a-tone-on-tone-background-with-laura-vegas.html

I have a recent habit of punching out the remnants of scrap pages and making baggies of them.
Here, I was able to use my cream punched flowers.
You can see they are different textures.

As the photo has a vintage feel to it,the obvious colour choice to compliment the cream is brown.
I chose tiny brown felt flowers to balance the layout.

Kaiser Telegraph Road layout

I made this layout for a challenge which has since finished (don't you hate that?)

I've used much of the Telegraph Road items and an old photo of us at a wedding. Yes, that is me in the pink shiny jersey (so 1980s).

There's chipboard, misted red and stickers,vellum,3 papers plus P/L cards on here.

Fathers Day card at Scrapping4fun

The card I have made for Fathers Day is this one.
It is entered at Scrapping4fun

I made the tag using Hot off the press pictures, washi tape(film) and Graphic 45 stickers.
I've added 2 brads .The title lettering and wooden veneer star are from my Counterfeit Kit.

Our beautiful world- texture

Our Beautiful world this week is asking for texture.
This photo of the church entrance at Glendalough near Dublin shows the old stonework to full advantage.

It was quite cold there as you can see from my daughter huddling in the doorway.

Some card challenges to start my Counterfeit Kit

I'm diving straight into my kit this month
First, a card for http://colorthrowdown.blogspot.com.au/

Here it is
**********
Next is Seize the birthday where we are asked to use a tag.

I've altered one of those P/L tags that come on a sheet.
I've added flower and bird stickers plus the word happy

My scanner doesn't like those home made enamel dots so I photographed it.
*******
The third card is for Try it on Tuesday where the theme is feminine and fancy.

And while I was in the mood, I made a tag plus 2 other cards using up scraps.
I will enter the 2 cards into Crafty Hazelnut.

Merry Monday #110

It is time to start on those Christmas cards and trims.
Today I have made a tag to go on a present.
I usually make biscuits or a cake or two for special treats, so this will attach to one of those.
I will probably use green ribbon.

I had some gingerbread man paper so started with that.
Next I added a flower and leaves, then a banner saying Happy Christmas.

June Counterfeit (Mini) kit- Telegraph Road

As I'll be on holidays overseas from the 10th, I've put together a very small mini kit this month.

Here is the kit we are to base our choice
http://shop.scrapbookcircle.com/products/may-2014-kit

https://www.cliquekits.com/store/p60/Summer_School_Workshop_Only_(Non-subscriber).html

There are many bright colours there!

I recently won some items on Mystical Scrapbooks, so I'm starting with that.

It features the Kaisercraft Telegraph Road collection.
Here is a close up of those papers

I've added a few other papers which match part of the original kit...black with brights, Chevron, grey patterned  and even a couple of 8x8 s

To that I have extras from last month that match
and some alphas

And some arrows plus counterfeit version of the Hi there card

And finally some beads that I melted in the oven to make my own enamel dots.

This must be the smallest collection I have ever used, but I will eek it out (you know me!)
Now here is the order for the hop

Order of the Hop:
